A group of Year 12 and 13 students spent a week skiing in the stunning Camonica Valley accompanied by members of staff.
Aprica is a large resort that offers skiers an incredible 1119 metres (3670 feet) of vertical descent and 21 pistes with a total length of 50 kilometres (30 miles). It is suited to all skiers with a number of beginner slopes to more advanced black slopes.
The first day of skiing saw students and staff divided into four groups; complete beginners, novices, intermediate and advanced. The intermediate and advanced groups went off to ski some of the more challenging ski runs, whilst the beginners stayed on the nursery slopes. After a full 3 hour morning ski session they were all ready for a hot lunch back at the hotel. Skiing continued again for a further 2 hours in the afternoon. The week culminated in a slalom run where each group had the opportunity to ski the slalom to see who could record the fastest time from each group.
As the week progressed the beginner groups moved from learning how to snow plough to then linking turns and finally progressing to some parallel turns. They progressed from starting on the green runs to skiing intermediate red runs. Asher Smith won the slalom run on the last day.
By the third day, the second beginner group was able to advance from the nursery slopes to the top of the Panoramica, which was a long winding blue run with some steep sections, with Ellie Burn winning their slalom.
The intermediate group were also Tiktok stars, who managed to create a video whilst improving their skiing skills. They were able to progress throughout the week to skiing the most difficult black runs by the end of the week. Callum Brown winning this groups slalom.
Finally, the advanced skiers, who skied all of the expert runs available in Aprica. The competition in this group was found in a ski app which measured how fast they were skiing. Sam Treweeke managed 43 mph with Henry Bowler clocking 48mph. Greg Wong, who also won the slalom, managed to take this accolade clocking a staggering 51 mph.
They were fortunate to have glorious sunny weather for most of their stay, both staff and students had a fantastic week.
