Year 13 Students Win Colts County Plate For Houghton Rugby Club

Congratulations to Durham Sixth Form Centre students Sam Treweeke, TJ Outhwaite, Henry Bowler and Sam Woodward who represented Houghton Rugby Club in the Colts County Plate win, and to James Fish who helped them get into the final.  Houghton RUFC Colts team, who the students play for, have recently won the County Plate Final against Horden RUFC with a score 27-15.

Sam Tweweeke quoted โ€œThis is a fantastic achievement for us all to finally win the County Plate, as we have came so close over the years to winning and this was the last opportunity to play for the 16-18 Colts team. We were all thrilled, especially for Carl, who has coached us over the years.โ€

The coach of Houghton RUFC is Carl Harvey who is also a former Durham Sixth Form Centre pupil. He has been coaching Sam Treweeke since he was 6, TJ and Sam Woodward since 10 and James and Henry for the last few years.

Sam Tweweeke also stated that although he has been offered a place at Oxford to study History from September and is hoping to play rugby for Oxford, Sam will still continue to play for Houghton RUFC Seniors during the holidays. TJ Outhwaite has been offered a place at Cambridge to also study History and like Sam hopes to play rugby for Cambridge and continue to play for Houghton when heโ€™s not at university.

Henry Bowler, Sam Woodward and James Fish are also planning to go to university. Henry to study Biomedical Science at York St John along with James who is going to study Music Technology. Sam is going to study Maths at Durham University. All of them want to continue to play in the future.

We are very proud of all of the boys achievements and wish them all the very best with their university studies and rugby in the future.
