Our Year 12 students were busy during the final week of the summer term taking part in a wide variety of work experience placements and tailored sessions on site to deepen their careers knowledge. Our BTEC Sport students have been particularly successful in their search for placements and have organised a very varied range of opportunities as part of their course. The majority of sports students have been involved in coaching for sports such as karate, football and outdoor pursuits, and we have also had students visiting local physiotherapists to learn more about this career path and the entry routes into it. Other sports students have been keen to explore avenues in sports journalism with local sports teams or in education by returning to their own secondary schools for experience working within the PE department.
A number of students volunteered with 11Arches to perform in Kynren over the summer months, notably Jaden Dixon who, as well as performing, has also worked throughout the summer in their casting department. A group of performing arts students has volunteered at a local care home to entertain the residents with a range of songs. Students have travelled down to London to sample working life within Magic Circle law firm, Allen and Overy and more locally to spend the week at BHP Law in Darlington as part of their new programme. These experiences will be invaluable to them as they apply for university places and solicitors apprenticeships in the autumn.
Within Sixth Form, we have offered our Year 12 students the opportunity to meet professionals within the fields of policing, medicine, dentistry and allied healthcare professions as well as a visit to Northumbria University for prospective engineers.
Thank you to everyone who has been involved in providing such a varied programme for our Year 12 students.
