Apprenticeship Networking Event

On Wednesday 15th May, Durham Sixth Form Centre welcomed nine providers to host a training and development networking event. The fair, held in the Theatre, provided information and advice about each organisation’s apprenticeship offering, the qualifications needed, and their wider curriculum, along with the positives of undertaking an apprenticeship. Some providers also handed out a flurry of freebies for students to take home.

A large number of students attended the event, speaking with representatives that deliver over 50 apprenticeship standards, ranging from Accounting to Agriculture, Quantity Surveying to Cyber Security. There are some fantastic opportunities available. Many of the Y13 students in attendance will soon be applying for competitive full time positions for when they leave us. Our event offered a chance to make a good first impression; something that collectively all the students achieved.

Feedback from our guests has been fantastic and Durham Sixth Form students showed themselves to be polite, engaged and overall impressive candidates for apprenticeship roles. Shona McLean from Skerne Lodge Training stated “Students were well prepared and knew what kinds of questions to ask us. The event was brilliant, and we were very impressed by your Sixth Form.”

Students hoping to apply and secure an apprenticeship will join the cohort who have already secured a role for September 2024 in a range of exciting areas. Apprenticeships secured so far include Accounting, Project Management, Solicitor and Nuclear Engineering. Some of these students have even been offered opportunities by two employers.

Following the success of this event, we will welcome all the training providers back into the sixth form on Friday 16th August, to share live vacancies, and offer interview support. If you would like to be invited to this event, please contact [email protected]
