CTEC / 2 year Course / OCR

This Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate aims to provide students with the knowledge, understanding and skills of the world of business and prepare students for higher education or employment. This course provides a fantastic opportunity for students to discover how the world of business impacts upon their lives on a daily basis. In addition to classrooms study, students can experience various aspects of business through a series of trips and guest speakers.

Teaching and learning methods

Teaching business involves a range of methods that engage students with both theoretical and practical elements of business studies. The subject requires students to understand concepts such as management, marketing, finance, and operations, while also developing analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

Assessment

The course is assessed by a combination of portfolio work and examinations. The two units assessed through examination are:

The Business Environment (2hrs)
Working in Business (1hr 30), which both require competency in mathematics.

All other units are assessed through portfolio work.

Subject Combination

Business works well alongside courses such as economics, accounting, mathematical studies. The Cambridge Technical course can also be successfully combined with a range of other A Level, BTEC and Level 3 subjects. Successful completion can lead to the opportunity to study at degree level, where a range of business-related courses are available.
