Reasons To Join

We work exclusively with your age group…

Is independence important to you?  At 16 years old, you have a choice of where you want to study.  You donโ€™t have to stay at your 11-18 school.  At Durham Sixth Form Centre, youโ€™ll be with like-minded people of the same age, who want to work hard, do well and get on in life.  Weโ€™re a tight-knit community of over 1,600 students who, with the help of our teachers, set high standards and aspire to achieve them.

Weโ€™ll put you first…

Itโ€™s your life, your future, so weโ€™ll help you put together a programme of study that gets you where you want to go. ย At every stage weโ€™re here to listen, advise and support you in your choices. ย You can talk through your options and ambitions at our open evenings or open days.

Weโ€™ll give you more choice…

We offer the most extensive range of A-Levels in the area, as well as BTEC qualifications and other Level 3 courses.  That means you will have more choice.  At your interview, weโ€™ll discuss your plans and aspirations and put together a programme of study to suit you.

We get results…

Our students have an excellent record of success, which they work hard to achieve.  In our most recent Ofsted Inspection, outcomes for students were graded as โ€˜outstandingโ€™.

Weโ€™re easy to get to…

Durham Sixth Form Centre is right in the heart of Durham City.  We are a couple of minutes walk from both the bus station and the railway station.  We are next to Freemanโ€™s Quay Leisure Centre, the Gala Theatre and the new Freemanโ€™s Wharf development.  Our students enjoy having all of the city centre facilities, shops, restaurants, the city library, cinema and theatre on our doorstep.

Weโ€™ll support you whatever your needs…

All of our students are assigned a Progress Tutor and Pastoral Support Manager (PSM).  They are there to help you. We donโ€™t want anything to come between you and your ambitions.  If youโ€™re having trouble managing your time, need guidance on writing an essay or with your revision, or youโ€™re dealing with dyslexia or any other learning difficulty, youโ€™ll get the right support.

Weโ€™ll offer you award-winning Careers Information, Advice and Guidance…

At Durham Sixth Form Centre, we see ourselves as a stepping stone between school and university, employment or further training.  We will help you achieve and realise your ambitions.  Our award-winning Progression Team will support you in preparing for university or employment and help you get to where you want to be.

Weโ€™ll offer you a rich, fulfilling student life…

Our enrichment programme provides opportunities to try new things, take existing skills and interests further and meet new people โ€“ all great preparation for university or life after sixth form.  You can take part in visits in the UK and overseas, or in activities related to your studies. You can join our Charity Committee, Sports and Arts Committees or debating teams to name but a few.

Weโ€™ll offer you financial support…

We offer our students financial support through our student bursaries. Talk to our Student Recruitment Team who will give you more information about financial support available or visit our Student Finance page on our website..
