County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust recently held its first Careers Showcase at the Seat Unique Riverside Stadium in Chester-le-Street. Students with a wide range of subject interests, from finance to child nursing attended to meet with professionals representing their departments within the Trust. From nursing to medical research, administration to technology, the fair showcased the multifaceted nature of the NHS. Charities and organisations working alongside the NHS were also represented, providing insight into a wealth of available career options. 

For many students, the highlight of the event was the chance to interact with healthcare professionals representing various disciplines. Opthamologists, social workers, clinical engineers and pathologists, among other experts, shared their experiences and insights, providing invaluable glimpses into the day-to-day realities of their professions. Conversations ranged from the challenges of patient care to the excitement of medical advancements, offering students a nuanced understanding of the healthcare landscape.

Workshops offered practical advice on navigating educational pathways and professional development. Students eagerly participated in dressing artificial wounds and personal statement clinics, gaining valuable skills for future job applications. The fair not only served as a hub for career exploration but also as a resource centre for those seeking guidance on the educational requirements and qualifications necessary for their chosen fields.

The networking opportunities at the fair were also a major draw. Students seized the chance to connect with representatives from universities, training programs, and employers. The NHS Careers Fair not only broadened their understanding of the healthcare sector but had also ignited a spark of inspiration for many.
