In July, we held our annual Year 12 Opportunities Week, where students were off timetable taking part in work experience either onsite or virtually. The aim was to provide all Y12 students with the chance to develop their employability skills through meaningful work experience or bespoke sessions.
Students were successful in securing experiences in companies and businesses in the North East including the Gala Theatre, Middlesbrough Football Club and Northumbrian Water, as well as supporting activities held during the last week of term for many local primary and secondary schools. We even had students completing project work in France and in the research labs at Queenโs University, Belfast.
Sessions were also held throughout the week onsite for students including a UCAS and Apprenticeship Workshop and a trip to Houghall College to support students considering their progression options for after they leave DSFC.
These opportunities will be a fantastic addition to personal statements and application forms, as well as giving some students the spark to move into a career that they will love.
