As part of the careers support on offer here at Durham Sixth Form Centre, our progression team recently organised a comprehensive Progression Fair to give information, advice and guidance on a wide range of future careers options to our students.
Over forty different providers attended the event which was held across the full day. Students were able to speak to local universities including Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Teesside and Sunderland to find out about the courses available on their doorsteps. There were also representatives from the University of Cambridge, the London School of Economics and as far away as Bangor University who spoke to students who are interested in moving further away for their Higher Education studies.
In addition a wide range of employers were available for guidance, including the Armed Forces with representatives from the Royal Navy, The Royal Air Force and the Army. The NHS, Durham Constabulary Police and Durham County Council were also present to chat to students about potential pathways within their institutions.
Apprenticeships are an increasingly popular choice for students after completing their studies with us and we were excited to be able to host a number of apprenticeship providers for students to engage with on the day, including employers such as BHP Law, Irwin Mitchell, EY, Azets, Tekgem and the MGL Group.
Feedback from both students and providers was overwhelmingly positive, with students appreciating the range of representatives to choose from and providers very impressed with how engaged and focused our students were in their interactions with them on the day. We are very much looking forward to running our next event and would like to thank everyone who attended to make it such a success.
