Culture Week 2025
Durham Sixth Form came alive with vibrant colours, flavours and traditions as we celebrated Culture Week 2025. The week was a fantastic opportunity for students and staff to come together and explore a diverse range of global cultures through a series of activities and stalls.
On Monday, the Resource Centre was buzzing with curiosity as students took part in the Interactive Map Activity, identifying their cultural links. The Chinese Culture Stall in the Refectory added a splash of cultural richness, showcasing traditional artefacts and insights into Chinese heritage. On Tuesday, the Interactive Map Activity continued, while the Latin-American Culture Stall introduced everyone to the vibrant traditions, crafts, and customs from various Latin American countries.
On Wednesday, students challenged their linguistic skills with the ‘Guess the Language Audio Challenge’ in the Refectory. An exciting addition to the day was a Y12 student Dima Al Mashni who brought in traditional Arabian food, sharing a taste of her heritage and creating an opportunity for cultural exchange and community bonding. The Indian Culture Stall on Thursday featured a variety of cultural elements, from traditional attire to creative arts. Meanwhile, students participated in making beautiful Rangoli Designs on the drive, having a go at creating intricate patterns and colourful artistry inspired by Indian culture.
We rounded off the week with a visit from the Afro-Caribbean Society from Durham University on Friday, who shared insights into African and Caribbean traditions, stories, and customs. Students also took part in a Virtual Quiz to test their knowledge about different cultures and histories, as part of the Student Briefing Notes.
Culture Week for 2025 was a great success, fostering inclusivity and encouraging everyone to learn more about the diverse cultures that enrich our community. A special thank you to all students, staff, and visitors who contributed.
