A range of students and staff spent February half term in the stunningly beautiful Alpine resort of Sestriere in Italy, to enjoy skiing at the highest resort in the extensive Milky Way ski area. Sestriere sits at the heart of one of Europe’s biggest ski areas known as the Via Lattea (Milky Way).

Lucy Duggan took part in the Historical Association’s Great Debate competition and won the Durham heat. We are thrilled to announce that Lucy is now going through to the finals at Windsor Castle in March.

The Great Debate is the Historical Association’s public-speaking competition for students aged 16-19.

Every year Durham Sixth Form Centre enters a team in the annual European Youth Parliament Inter-Schools Debating Competition. This year the North-East Regional final was held at the Urban Sciences Building, Newcastle University. Our team competed against a number of local schools on the topics of returning artefacts to their origin African countries, the gig economy, the fashion industry and climate change, improving vaccine uptake, immigration in Europe and assisted suicide. 

Every year Durham Sixth Form Centre enters a team into the European Youth Parliament UK Inter- Schools Debating Competition and after being successful in the UK National Session 2021, we are delighted to announce that Lily Local has been selected to attend the Swedish National Session in Lund, March 2022. 

We are thrilled to be working with former student Nathan Clark to produce high-quality professional videos of Durham Sixth Form Centre to feature in our virtual open evening events and online promotional material.

Nathan joined us as a student after completing his GCSEs at Belmont Community School and chose A-levels in media studies, film studies and IT.
