Members of the Student Working Wellbeing Party worked with the charity ‘Investing in Children’ and other young people from around County Durham to organise a free-to-enter World Mental Health day event. The aim was to create an event that was both fun and informative for young people and their parents/carers organised.

Over four days during October and November, members of the Student Wellbeing Group participated in ‘Wellbeing Workshops’ with DSFC’s Artist-in-Residence, Cloe Sparrow. 

During the four sessions, the group experimented with many different mediums and techniques. The aim was to create a piece of artwork to submit to Kooth’s ‘Overcoming Negative Emotions through Art’ competition, whilst also creating art that eased our minds and expressed our feelings in creative ways.

The Durham Sixth Form Centre Golf Academy has earned a strong reputation for producing student golfers that excel both on the course and in the classroom. Former students have gone on to represent their country while others have secured prestigious scholarships in the United States.

Talented students at Durham Sixth Form Centre have been taking part in an inspiring competition designed to encourage pupils in England to choose a poem, learn it by heart and perform it out loud. We are delighted to announce that Year 13 Millie Swainson, who won the competition at Durham Sixth Form Centre, has been successful in gaining a place in the national finals.

The Health and Social Care department regularly invites industry and academic experts into their classrooms to compliment students’ curriculum learning. Recently, students had the opportunity to find out how higher level communication skills are used within counselling and psychotherapy in a fascinating workshop, delivered by Suzy Hansford of Lancashire based Edge Hill University.

The Biology and Applied Science departments have fostered relationships with several Russell Group Universities and, as a result, were able to welcome Dr Jose Guillermo Puello from the University of Manchester. He has previously delivered workshops and progression talks for the department, which have been very well received.

We are delighted to announce that Year 12 students Ruby Blenkiron and Grace Newton were selected to represent the UK and compete at the Summit All Star Cheerleading World Championships in Florida recently. The Cheerleading World Championships attract competitors from all over the world including the USA, Canada, Germany and Sweden.

Durham Sixth Form Centre is proud to announce that our Boys’ Football Academy first team is crowned National Football Youth League ( NFYL) North Division 1 Champions after a hard-fought season in the highest level of football, outside the academy system.

On Wednesday 15th May, Durham Sixth Form Centre welcomed nine providers to host a training and development networking event. The fair, held in the Theatre, provided information and advice about each organisation’s apprenticeship offering, the qualifications needed, and their wider curriculum, along with the positives of undertaking an apprenticeship.

Over 400 Year 12 parents/carers attended our recent annual Parents Careers Conference, where they were informed of all the key information that they would need to support their young people through the various progression options which lie ahead.
