Teaching and Learning Methods

There are a number of opportunities for students to extend their understanding of law and experience first hand how law affects their lives. Outside speakers visit the centre and in the past have included solicitors, police officers, magistrates, MPs and representatives from local universities. Several of these visiting speakers are ex-law students from the centre who have gone on to follow the law in their profession.

Students will visit Newcastle Combined Law Courts to sit in the public gallery. In addition students will have the opportunity to travel to London and visit the Royal Courts of Justice, the Central Criminal Courts (Old Bailey) and the Houses of Parliament.

Assessment

The BTEC Law qualification offers a comprehensive understanding of the legal system, principles, and practices, preparing students for careers in law, criminal justice, or other related fields. The assessment for this course is a combination of internally assessed coursework assignments and externally assessed controlled assessments, providing a balanced approach to evaluating both theoretical knowledge and practical application.

Each unit within the BTEC Law qualification is graded using the Pass, Merit, or Distinction scale, allowing students to demonstrate their understanding at different levels.
