Ski Trip to Aprica, Italy
During half term, Year 12, Year 13 students and staff hit the slopes of Aprica in Italy for an exciting skiing adventure. Aprica is a small village located in the Camonica Valley in the region of Lombardy and ski holidays there have been enticing skiers for decades. Italy’s ski resorts are rated some of the best in Europe, and having experienced the challenges of Aprica two years ago we decided to take advantage of this again this year.
The journey there started in Newcastle, via Amsterdam and Milan, before arriving into Aprica in time for tea. After a restful night’s sleep, we hit the slopes of Nuova Area Baradello.
As the students all had different skiing abilities, they were organised into different groups. Mr Miller, and the advanced skiers went off to the red and black runs after an initial induction; Mr Kirkpatrick and Mr Anglesea went with those students who had some prior experience of skiing and Miss Lamb and Miss Wardle stayed with the students who, like them, had not skied before. All students made great progress throughout the course of the week.
Each day consisted of five hours of skiing, which in itself was tiring but all staff and students had a fantastic time. Despite all packing multiple layers of thermals, the weather was bright, sunny and warm (11 degrees) and sun cream was the sought after product. Wednesday was the only day it snowed.
Prior to departure, there was a little bit of time for some last minute shopping and a cheeky pizza, which students were very happy about.
The students were an absolute pleasure to be with and were excellent ambassadors for Durham Sixth Form Centre.
