Attendance and Term Dates

Attendance Expectations

Studies consistently show a strong correlation between attendance and academic achievement as well as wellbeing. It is for this reason, coupled with the desire to prepare students for the world of work, that we have the highest of expectations in relation to attendance at DSFC.

All of our students are expected to maintain an average attendance rate of 95% or above and must not book holidays during term time.

The table demonstrates the relationship between attendance and attainment, as it highlights the average attendance of students who achieved each A Level grade across all ninety Sixth Form Colleges in the country, thus representing hundreds of thousands of students nationally.

More information about attendance can be found in our Climate for Learning Policy.

Why Consistent Attendance is Vital

Maximising Learning Opportunities

Each lesson is designed to build on previous knowledge and prepare students for exam and assignment success. Missing lessons means missing out on these critical building blocks, which can make it harder to keep up with the pace of studies.

Access to Support

Subject specialist teachers are here to guide and support students, but this support is only effective when they are present and engaged. Regular attendance allows students to ask questions, participate in discussions and receive feedback on progress.

Establishing Good Habits

Maintaining a routine of regular attendance not only benefits current studies but also helps students to develop the discipline and time-management skills that are essential for university, apprenticeships or future careers.

Boosting Confidence and Readiness

Consistent attendance enables students to feel prepared and confident for exams and assignments. Attending every lesson will give them the best chance to succeed.
